Tournament: South African Open Championship
Venue: Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate
Date: 15-18th November 2012
For the second year in succession the South African Open Championship returned to Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate, this would be my 6th South African Open and my second at the stunning Jack Nicklaus design. The South African Open is always a highlight on the Sunshine Tour schedule and one of my favourite tournaments of the year. It’s always great to be able to play at a golf course that is close to home, particularly a world class one.
I was carrying quite a bit of form coming into the SA Open with some strong finishes over the last couple of events. I came out of the blocks extremely hot with a scorching 30 on the front 9, culminating in a course record 64, to lead the tournament by two strokes after the first day of play.
Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to play with world number 71 and 7 time European Tour winner Henrik Stenson as well former World Number 1, 10 time European Tour winner and 2010 US PGA Championship (Major) Martin Kaymer.
I learnt some valuable lessons over the course of the week through my experiences with these two players. I am sure these lessons will assist in my further development and continued success in golf. Thank you once again to Richard and City Couriers for your continued support.
