IRONMAN4thekidz charity initiative

On Sunday the 15th of April 2018, the Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship (IMAC) ultra-triathlon will take place in Port Elizabeth.  This event has been a favourite on the international race circuit for over a decade and attracts triathletes from all over the world.  It has been voted the 2nd best race venue in the world on the IRONMAN circuit and attracts famous crowds of 80,000 plus spectators!

This year City Logistics and its associate company Afrigistics will be sponsoring two charity slots under the IRONMAN4thekidz charity initiative.  The Charity is a registered NPO and offers support to 19 children charities in South Africa.  Taking part in the bright orange charity vests of IM4thekidz and in the process raising funds for these charities will be Chris van den Berg (MD of Afrigistics) and Eckert Giliomee, both first time IRONMAN participants!

The event comprises a 3,8km ocean swim, 180km cycle and 42km run and requires months of dedicated training and preparation.  Speaking to Chris & Eckert a few weeks before the event, they commented as follows:

Being first time participants and not fully knowing what to expect, we are both very excited to take part in IMAC PE and especially by doing so, to be able to contribute to a good cause by supporting the IRONMAN4thekidz charities in the process, thereby making a difference in the lives of many under privileged children.  We both started training seriously during December.  Training for ultra-IRONMAN events requires lots of dedication, commitment and early morning training sessions! For the past 4 months training varied between 4 – 7 days per week with lots of long hours in the pool and on the road.

The full day event will once again be televised live on Supersport channel 199.  We encourage everyone to support our sponsored triathletes and as well as the IRONMAN4thekidz charity through the available donation options provided on their website – or Simply SMS Kids to the number 39408 at a cost R15.00 and a portion of this fee will go the charity.
