Vusi is 14 years old. His birthday is June 1st. He is an orphan and before coming to I Care was living with his aunt. She did not take good care of him and consequently he is not a very well child. She neglected to take him for his necessary medication at the hospital but DID take him for social welfare visits, possibly because she then received a grant for him.
He is currently in grade 4 at school so is well behind in his education and we are waiting for his social welfare worker to find a good placement for him.
He lives in one of our I Care houses in Lower Illovo with Fundi, his house-parent. He has been with Fundi since his rehabilitation in 2013. He is a nice young boy and I Care is happy to take care of him and help him. Your donation of R34,000.00 enables us to do that and we are very grateful.
Quapela is now a young man of 22. He has been with I Care for +/- 8 years and is studying for his Matric. He was Head Boy of his primary school in the year I Care ‘re-unifiied’ him back to his family.
His ambition in to become an airline pilot. Damelin College has offered assistance with his studies but we are not 100% sure that this will be relevant to his career choice.
He is living with his family in the Inanda area, is a highly ambitious young man who has realised that he has a chance of a better future since changing his life from that of a street child.
Quapela is possibly too old for you to consider but I Care is still responsible for him. Our commitment is to each child who comes into our care until they are able to ‘stand on their own feet’.
