10 week countdown to this exciting event.
Finals 29th & 30th July.

The City Logistics Driver Competition 2016 aims to promote healthy competition between our Company drivers, both within the Linehaul and Distribution divisions, testing driving skills and technical ability, as well as knowledge of best practice techniques.

This annual competition has progressed from our “in-house” driver training programs introduced in 2014, to a tremendously successful Driver of the Year 2015 and a further 2016 event, in addition to our 3 certified Driver Trainers, who have completed their certifications with Mercedes-Benz of South Africa.

We are extremely lucky during these tough economic times to have received sponsorship to the value of R265 000.00  Without these generous sponsors there would be no competition.  Owing to the success of our 2015 Driver Competition people want to be associated with and support this event.  2016 Sponsors are as follows:- Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Rapid Truck Bodies, FleetBoard, Fuso, SI Group, Altech Netstar, Primeserv, Caltex, Bandag, Risk Trans, GRW, ABSA, Afrit, Wesbank, Stratostaff, Capacity and UD Trucks.

The first phase in the competition consists of a simple theory test at each depot and a detailed performance report on each driver’s practical skills.
The top 10 Linehaul and top 10 Distribution drivers will be selected and go through to the Finals, which will be managed by the Yonke organization, in conjunction with City Logistics in Durban.

Please note that Yonke is a Driver Training company accredited with the South African Institute of materials handling (SAIMH), as well as the Road Transport Industry Education Training Board (RTIETB) and is highly proficient in conducting Operator and Driver competitions.

A few words from our winner of the 2015 Driver of the Year Competition, Sam Mofokeng
:

“I like to take this opportunity to thank all the Sponsors of the Driver Competition.
As the winner of the City Logistics 2015 driver competition, I gave my wife my total prize winning money of R10 500 to open a pre-school, known as Khulanolwazi Edu-care centre meaning ‘Grow up with Knowledge’.  The money contributed towards the required facilities e.g tables, chairs, sponges, groceries, carpets and rent.
This made us proud as we created job opportunities for four families.
This year I will enter once again as we are facing some challenges of owning our own property and safe transport. Any additional income I may receive will be allocated towards this pre-school, operating 100% by 2018. Thank You.”

We look forward to a great 2016 event and my sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors for believing in the City Logistics Driver of the Year Competition.
