City Logistics Donates 2nd Oven to Celebrate Life’s Ubuntu Oven Project

City Logistics has sponsored its second oven to Celebrate Life’s Ubuntu Oven Project.

The community bakery that received the oven donated by City Logistics is being run by a local women-led co-operative that is established in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu Natal. The income earning capacity per oven is between R4500 and R6000 per month at a six-hour day of baking, which produces 48 loaves of bread per day. There are positions created for four women at one oven, and each of these women receive full training and continued mentoring relating to the bread machines and, importantly, how to run a successful business.

Empowering these women bakers with the resources they need enables them to bring about change in the community. With increased income potential, they are better able to feed and support their families, which will result in the long-term reduction of poverty and violence in their homes.

Through corporate and private funding Celebrate Life has successfully rolled out numerous township bakeries, each one selling their baked products to people in their community. The objective of Celebrate Life is to establish rural community entrepreneurs and supporting them throughout the process in order to maintain sustainable businesses.
