With current national blood stock levels at just five days and platelet stock levels at less than one day, City Logistics personnel have stepped up to support the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) by donating much needed blood.
According to the SANBS, less than 1% of South Africans are active blood donors. A unit of blood only lasts 42 days after donation and, for this reason, it is important for blood donors to donate regularly. Donors can give blood as often as every eight weeks.
Every unit of blood can save at least three lives as blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets. The SANBS aims to collect 3000 units of blood per day to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply in the country’s health care system. You can donate blood if you are healthy and lead a low risk lifestyle.
Should you be interested in donating blood, please locate your nearest blood bank to be part of this important, life-saving cause.
